Heart Month

If you are looking for information about cardiovascular disease and stroke, be sure to check the website of Center of Disease Control and Prevention. I know you have heard it all before, but after 40 years of improvements made in health care and education, we still need united efforts to improve cardiovascular health.

Consider this:
  • Cardiovascular disease is still the #1 cause of death in the United States.
  • Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths.
  • Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of disability meaning time lost from work and family.
  • Cardiovascular disease is very expensive.  In 2010, it cost this country more than $444 billion.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 63% of heart attacks and 31% of strokes could be prevented by lifestyle changes. Changes such as smoking cessation, weight control,  physical activity and better nutrition can go a long way and add years to life. Take care of your heart!
