If you watch even a moderate amount of TV, most likely you've seen the infomercials from P90X. Pretty convincing, don't you think?
Several months ago the American Council on Exercise reported that their office received questions quite often about the efficacy of the program. It seems there are a lot of people out there that would like to get "absolutely ripped" in 90 days. I have members of some of my own classes that work with this program. They are not amoung the weak at heart.
ACE enlisted the help of one of the fitness educators, Sabena Merrile, M.S., to evaluate the program with the help of a 32 year-old father and coach otherwise known as a "Ginny pig". Keep in mind that by most standards P90X is not to be taken lightly. It is not to be attempted by a sedentary individual or someone without a moderate fitness level.
So what happened with the 32 year old coach? He reported that he reached a level of fitness that he had not experienced since college. The first three weeks were very challenging, but he stayed on target. The P90X is an intense program that can produce results, but only if you are somewhat fit to start with and can maintain a heavy training program. As always, using good technique goes a long way to protect against injury. This is not for those with a weak heart...in more ways that one.
