#5. Working out on an empty stomach.

You may have heard that working out on an empty stomach will give you an edge on burning body fat. Ms. Sass says that we don’t know for sure, but we do know during aerobic exercise you burn a combination of carbs and fat. A recent study found that for cyclist who trained without food in their stomachs, 10% of what they burned was protein.

My comment: I am asked this from time to time. Why workout without fuel anyway? How far would you expect your car to go on empty?

#4. Sleep.

Healing and repair largely occur during sleep. Ms. Sass says that too little sleep will increase your hunger hormones, increase inflammation, increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, depression and heart disease. It also makes an impression on your performance in a workout. Try to get some good quality sleep.

My comment: Have you ever found yourself reaching for food needing energy when you really needed rest? I have.

More later.
