When researchers in Britain studied a group of over 6000 obese people, they found still another reason to treat obesity with concern. The research was over a period of 10 years and the Body Mass Index was the standard to measure obesity. The bottom line was the obese people with two or more risk factors [for metabolic syndrome] had a 22.5% decline with mental issues. Risk factors include high blood pressure (or taking medication), low HDL, high glucose (or taking medication for diabetes), high triglycerides (or taking medication). The obese without risk factors also showed a rapid decline. We hear the argument quite often that one can be fat, but fit. Regardless, obesity plays a role in one's health.
