As You Are Able

This is a phrase that I hear quite often particularly in church.  As you are able please stand for the hymn of praise.  As you are able please stand for the reading of the gospel. Most of us just pop right up from the pew.  As I looked around at the Easter service I saw one lady in a wheel chair, head tilted to one side with a sweet smile on her face.  Several others had walkers positioning themselves toward the isle.  Our church also has shorter pews towards the back for those who bring themselves in a motorized chair.  Bless them! We all want to be in the majority and able to stand. It is a gift not to be taken for granted. Decline in strength is part of a natural aging process. It is easy to slack off with exercise as one grows older and play the "I'm getting older card so I won't do as much today". Careful not to go there too quickly.  Tomorrow when you workout and face the fork in the road, it might just be the path of more resistance that will keep you on your feet longer.
