Refresh

Once again, May has the distinction of bringing awareness to health and fitness encouraging all of us to make exercise a part of life. Chances are if you are reading this, you already make exercise a part of your day so you might forward this to someone who needs a little encouragement. For those not accustomed to exercise, any activity is really hard and any kind of awareness just brings on a groan. Let's say that you loved playing tennis in younger years and think about picking it up again. Chances are you are going to die your first time back on the court. The same applies to walking, running and all other activites. Starting with increments of 10 minutes maybe 2 or 3 times a day is manageable. However, a 45 minute walk for some can be a killer and a bad case of shin splints. The American College of Sports Medicine tells us there are gains to be made with shorter workouts multiple times during the day. Check out the website if you need verification. You may think 10 minutes is not worth the time it takes to change your shoes and get hot and sweaty, but in the big picture, it can make a difference. Keep in mind that you may just get that time back in the end. So May might just be a good time to hit the refresh button and start new.
