Childhood Obesity

There was a very moving article, "Fight Against Childhood Obesity", in the San Antonio Express News last Sunday by Dr. Roberto P. Trevino. It seems that between the years of 2004 and 2010 obesity for children age  3-5 years decreased from 14% to 10% except in San Antonio.  The rate for obesity in this age group in San Antonio is 24%. That is a very big number for such young children. The cost of treating obesity in the United States is now reported to be about 190 million dollars a year.  A child between the ages of 3-5 that is obese is being set up to face a lifetime of problems and yet it is not that hard to fix. The fix is about food. It's about inactivity. It's about parenting. Unfortunately, it is a problem for many children that is not going away.
